Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Treats - Ice Cream
The Brief:
We were asked to reimagine the classic Rice Krispies Treat as an ice-cream sandwich across four flavours. The challenge was achieving edible realism at extreme close-up: each cereal bubble needed believable micro-detail. The marshmallow glue had to look gummy without becoming glossy, and the ice-cream required convincing subsurface scattering with torn, spoon-scooped texture.
Our workflow combined ultra-high-resolution photogrammetry of individual Rice Krispies, natural particle packing for clustering, and layered look-development for the ice cream. The result was a suite of hero stills suitable for packaging, promos and social.
Photogrammetry & Modelling:
To capture the micro scale, we macro-scanned dozens of individual Rice Krispies and built a reusable high-resolution asset library. Each krispie was shot in RAW on a controlled macro rig, reconstructed into dense meshes and baked to clean, highly detailed maps. This gave us authentic, irregular geometry that could be instanced, scattered and naturally packed.
Ice Cream Textures:
We sculpted real ice-cream textures physically, then micro-scanned those tactile models to capture torn edges and the soft “bark” that’s notoriously difficult to fake procedurally. The scans were refined, re-topologised, baked and finished in shader look-dev.
By blending scanned detail with layered subsurface scattering, micro-roughness and wetness masks, we achieved a soft, edible surface that holds up even at extreme magnification.
Variants:
From one locked master, we created three additional flavours: Strawberry, Triple Chocolate and Mint Choc Chip. Guided by production reference photography, we swapped in ribbons, chips and toppings, dialled colour and sheen, and art-directed the chocolate drips and finishes.
The result: four mouth-watering, photo-real product shots that balance craft, realism and brand appeal.
Golden West Food Group Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Treats Ice Cream
Rice Krispies ice cream sandwiches for our good friends Golden West Food Group partnering with Kellogg’s. Impossible?
We micro scanned and created photo real Rice Bubbles, used a particle system to pack them together naturally and glued them together with sticky marshmallow goo. We sandwiched this in with a fluffy photo real ice cream along with its designed imperfections and mint chips . Lastly, we dipped them in delicate chocolate!
Kellogg’s Eggo’s biscuits provided another challenge and so we crafted a tasty controlled bite through a crumbly shortbread biscuit that was toasted on the outside. GGI food art!
