Bull In A China Shop

Electric Art once famously put a giraffe up a tree… so creating a bull in a china shop seemed very up our alley!
An epic effort from every department at EA plus a lovely collaborative creative process with the agency resulted in a beautifully crafted final animation.

Bull in a China Shop

We're thrilled to share this work for DDB Health NY, it's definitely a dream brief and one of our favorite campaigns. How does one communicate that a new drug is both powerful, offering the efficacy that the patient's disease demands, yet is gentle on the patient at the same time? A bull in a china shop!! We jumped at the chance to bring this visual metaphor to life.
Creating, sculpting, texturing and animated CGI animals is considered “next level difficult” in the CGI world. Creating photo-real china shops to go with them is no easy task either, but in the end, these custom built animals and shops were a labour of love for the Electric Art CGI, Retouching, and Compositing departments!

An epic effort from all plus a lovely collaborative creative process with the agency resulted in a beautifully crafted final animation.

Hero Westie Rough Comp vs Final Result.

Our little fella as he appears on the new packaging.

Cesar Westie

Creaytive came to us to create the perfect hero Westie & puppy for Cesar’s global redesign. Both the original westie assets were posed front 3/4 and they needed to be recreated facing directly forward.

Our brief was to retain as much of the personality of the original assets as possible whilst enhancing all the details in the key elements especially in the fur. This was an incredibly intricate compositing project, literally moving individual hairs! Amazing attention to every little detail helped lead to an awesome result.

I’ve worked with them on complex image creations to detailed water sculpted athletes and they delivered incredible finished pieces of art.

Their collaborative nature enhances the project experience whether they produce still imagery or animated spots.
Even though they are in a different time-zone their responsiveness and workflow put your mind at ease knowing that your deadlines will be met.

We have a solid history at EA in creating CGI splashes in various forms.
Bryce Harper's & Cam Newtown's poses were sculptured faithfully & lit using a HDR captured during the liquid shoot. Photographer Stephen Stewart shot detailed images of the product in motion. Retouching took the rendered poses, enhanced them with photographic detail & crafted the dynamic splash forms. We went on to create two more executions in the series.

Sea-Doo - Be The Machine

EA created the Sea-Doo & the rider entirely in CGI for the launch of the new RXT. The headline “Be The Machine” emphasises the ergonomic design of the new model that enables the rider to hug the vehicle resulting in a greater performance. EA designed the rider’s costume to compliment the Sea-Doo, perfecting every little surface texture whilst keeping the whole scene dramatic & atmospheric. Pretty much a dream brief for our CGI team.

Ryobi Samurai TVC

TVC

Hero Images

Creative Development:
EA undertook a period of character development & research prior to commencing the design of the Samurai.
Special attention was paid to surface reality, textures & shaders.

Ryobi Samurai TVC

This was pretty much a dream job from the guys over at Fenton Stephens. EA were briefed to modernise the famous Ryobi Samurai to create a more modern, kickass version. We created a realistic, dynamic 4 second animation for the TVC end frame as well as highly detailed images for online & POS.

The character design phase explored the extremes of what the Samurai could be, from a slightly modernised traditional character to a more exaggerated superhero. Elements were taken from both ranges, eventually settling on a hybrid. Strong links to a traditional samurai (swords, helmet design, sandals, underclothing) were given a twist with materials like lacquered metal & rubber to reach the current design, which was built and rigged with incredible detail. Pete Commins did an incredible job on the character design & the modeling.

Schick - Free Your Skin

We loved the concept of this brief & knew it had the potential to look amazing. Several test comps were done initially to explore the size, type, colour & position of the animal. We settled on a mixture of ferrets for the limbs, face & tail & rabbits for the softer fuller fur of the body. The agency street cast an awesome range of hipsters & Troy worked his magic shooting the selected talent in Auckland.
Stephen did a great job shooting the furry critters matching the portrait lighting & posing the animals to match our rough comps. Our menagerie consisted of 6 ferrets & 9 rabbits, all various colours. The rabbits were the best looking of the bunch although the ferrets had all the personality & a rather.. unique.. smell about them. A million furry captures later & we had a fantastic bank of material. The rough comp was remade in high res with input from the creatives & Troy. A super challenging deadline was made achievable thanks to an awesome team effort!

Rio Tinto - Mine of The Future

The Whole Story

Cut down showing EA’s animated world.

Rio Tinto - Mine of The Future

This animation brief required us to tell the story of Rio Tinto's future vision for mining taking reference from a 2D illustration and revisualising it in 3D Animation. In essence this meant creating a multi-scale, fully animated world that describes the process of the modern mine from pit to port. The challenge was to keep a highly treated CGI animated look and still be able to transition into real footage and then back again into the animated world.

The kids were cast to fit their specific roles:  Lady of the House, RV Granny, Fisherman & Southern Belle.  Zack’s production team did an awesome job creating mini environmental narratives for them through propping, backgrounds & wardrobe.
